Book Club Friday:Unwind

It’s Friday!!
Once again I am amazing at how fast this week has gone!
I feel like I’ve been going and going, like the energizer bunny.  And I won’t stop going until Wednesday because that is my next day off from work.
Ps. You have a Disney work update coming up tomorrow.  It’s pretty awesome possum.
So get excited.
So, since it’s Friday that means it is time for:

This week I’m sharing:
Here is the synopsis:

Connor, Risa, and Lev are running for their lives.
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound,” whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.

Doesn’t that cover look weird?
See I’m one of those readers who totally judges a book by its cover.
That’s terrible, I know but I can’t help it.
I did the same thing with The Giver and then I had to read it in a children’s literature class in college and LOVED it.
So when this was recommended to me by an old teacher I was super hesitant to read it.
Not only that but it is over a HUGELY controversial topic that usually makes people uncomfortable to read about, talk about, and even think about.
But I was surprised to find that I really liked this book.  Like A LOT!
It captivates you from the first chapter to the last.
Each chapter gives you the story from each major character perspective and even from minor characters, whom may not be super important to the overall plot, but give you the background you need to fully understand how and why the United States is run the way it is.
I think this is going to be a series, but I don’t know if the 2nd book has been written yet.
So if you want to read something a little different, but very well written and very good, swing by your favorite bookstore and pick it up.

Happy Reading! 🙂

  1. This book sounds crazy!! I put it on my TBR list. And are you working at Disney? I think that would be so much fun! I read a case in college about the Disney caste system. Crazy!

  2. I judge books by their covers too. I've found some very good books that way. That one looks and sounds very interesting! Definitely adding it to my to-read list!
